ArchivalResource

Enactments relating to the constitution and government of the University of Virginia [manuscript]/ compiled by F. W. Page, Assistant Librarian, 1877.

Volume contains handwritten copied extracts from state laws and from the minutes of the University's Board of Visitors of all laws and regulations in force at the University. The volume is accompanied by loose pages on which similar extracts of regulations up to about 1889 are written. Also present are typed transcripts prepared in 1891. The original manuscript volume apparently was prepared to supplement the printed Enactments Relating to the Constitution and Government of the University of Virginia which went through several editions in the 1830s and 1840s. It included regulations that applied to the faculty, students, hotel and "mess providers" (dining facilities operators), the library, and officials. The original manuscript volume was supplemented by copying out the regulations passed since 1877, and a manuscript prepared for publication. Marked up handnwrititen and typed texts are present as are a few pieces of correspondence and other items pertaining to the typing and possible publication. Walter D. Dabney, faculty member, and Mason Gordon, a member of the Board of Visitors, were involved.

1 volume and ca. 25 loose items.
